Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview for Vladimir Solovyov's documentary "World Order 2018" that the United States "grossly and brazenly" deceived Russia before the coup in Ukraine. "Moreover, on a personal level he made a very good impression on me".

"I think he is a reasonable man, despite his flamboyant ways-a result of his previous activities and experience", Putin said, claiming that-while talking business-Trump "gets to the core of issues, he listens and communicates with the other party".

"It's possible to negotiate with him, to search for compromises", Putin added.

Four American senators submitted a letter addressed to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Thursday, urging him to hold talks with Russian Federation on strategic issues and extension of the New START Treaty following President Putin's statements.

Moscow's hopes for better ties with Washington have been dashed by the ongoing investigations into allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

When asked about his countries hopes for better relations with the United States and the ongoing investigations into the allegation that the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation during the presidential election, Putin said that the tensions in relations have been caused by the Western efforts to weaken and contain Russian Federation.

Putin and Trump met face-to-face last July at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, and again in November when the two leaders were in Vietnam.

Moscow has denied any involvement.

He said, 'This would be a global catastrophe for humanity but I, as a citizen of Russia and the head of the Russian state would like to ask you this - what do we need a world for if there is no Russia in it?' Head of Russia's Federation Council (upper house of parliament) International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev considers the urge voiced by several U.S. senators for talks with Russia following Russian President's recent statements on new weapons to be encouraging.
