Binghamton University student from Westbury killed

Police say a male nursing student at the university who had a previous relationship with the victim is a person of interest.

The body of 22 year old Haley Anderson, a nursing student at Binghamton University, was found in a home Friday afternoon on Oak Street in the city.

Binghamton Police Detectives are continuing to investigate the case. Neighbors tell News 12 they are heartbroken to hear of Anderson's death.

According to investigators, the man left the country by flight before Anderson's body was discovered.

In a press release, police said during an autopsy conducted at Lourdes hospital, Anderson's cause of death was ruled a homicide.

City detectives are being assisted by Binghamton University police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York/New Jersey Port Authority police and police in Nassau County.

Binghamton University's Facebook page offered a message of sympathy to her loved ones.

Officials say there is no threat to public safety.
