Kyron Cartwright hit two go-ahead free throws with 1:32 left in overtime and added a crucial basket with 16 seconds to go and fifth-seeded Providence took a big step toward a fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth with a 72-68 win over fourth-seeded Creighton in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament on Thursday in NY.

Butler (20-13) had advanced to the semifinals with a 75-74 win over Seton Hall for its first career win in the Big East tournament in five tries. It is the fourth in program history. The moments that really sealed this title for the Wildcats were a broken-play three-ball by Bridges to stretch the lead to four points, and a jumper by Brunson to reestablish that margin.

Both teams have won a game in the season series. "We just, hey, we had a great player pick up a loose ball and shoot a 3".

"Providence defensively was unbelievable".

"When I sat down I felt the great breeze in the crack", Cooley said after the game, laughing. He scored his 25th point on a circus layup shortly after Edwards entered the game. The other guys played off - they carried their team today. As a team, they shot 47.5 percent from the field.

Cartwright had just four points on five shots without an assist in the first half. A Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree free throw made it 11-2.

Providence wasn't as effective in turning points into turnovers - 13 points from turnovers, compared to Creighton's 17. With 11:57 to play in the period, the contest was tied at 11. Senior Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) added 10 points.

Cartwright had eight straight points, including two 3-pointers, in a 92 second run midway through the second half to get the Friars back into the game. Christian Juzang added 12 points, hitting 4 of 6 from 3-point range for Harvard (18-12). Diallo would finish the night with 22 points and 10 boards.

Two 3-pointers by Brunson and a series of defensive stops allowed Villanova to push its advantage to 37-27 less than two minutes into the second half.

The Friars rallied from 11 points down in the second half to force overtime, but the Wildcats took control in the extra session and escaped with a 76-66 win for their second straight conference tournament championship.

In overtime, Brunson and fellow Villanova superstar Mikal Bridges took over.

Diallo came back with a driving layup, but Brunson hit a fall away to give the Wildcats a four point-lead, once again, and the Friars never got back within one possession.

Two Diallo free throws got the Friars back within two, 58-56, with three minutes left.

Prior to the final 3-pointer of that run he defended the massive Spellman in the paint and boxed him out on the rebound. Mintz made two free throws with 12.0 to go, halving the deficit to two. He knocked down a corner 3, converted a traditional three point play, and finished on a hard layup in the first two and a half minutes of the second half.

The 2018 Big East Championship starts at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Fox. In 1983, Boston College's John Garris tallied 32 points to set the mark. Eric Paschall hit a floater in the lane that seemed to steady the Wildcats. "We were good when we needed to be - Divine Providence was on our side".
