Chinese President Xi Jinping ended China's annual session of parliament on Tuesday with a strongly nationalistic speech, saying China would never allow any part of its territory to be separated from it.

In his closing speech at the National People's Congress (NPC) today, Xi said, "The Party is the highest force for political leadership and the fundamental guarantee of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation", Over 1.5 million Chinese officials, including over 100 ministers, were punished in the massive anti-corruption drive carried out by Xi in the last five years which also enabled him to consolidate his power.

"We are resolved to fight the bloody battle against our enemies. with a strong determination to take our place in the world", Xi said.

Days after President Donald Trump signed new rules allowing top-level USA officials to travel to Taiwan, Xi warned that Beijing would defend its "one China principle", which sees the self-ruling island as its territory awaiting reunification.

In his address, Xi said China would promote "high-quality" development that values innovation over speed of growth.

During its session, China's National People's Congress has ratified the constitutional amendment removing decades old two-term limit for President and Vice President paving the way for Xi to continue in power for life.

"The Chinese people have understood since ancient times that nothing is free", he said.

"Mongolia maintains the continuity and integrity of its foreign policy, and I have repeatedly expressed my commitment to intensify Mongolia's traditional friendly relations and cooperation with the neighbors", the President said in his letter.

"China's development does not pose a threat to any country", he said.

Xi, who oversees all Taiwan affairs, also focused on reunifying Taiwan and China during a major speech to the Communist Party previous year.

Mr Xi also stressed the need for a country to be united in order to prosper and, in a reference to Taiwan, said Beijing would thwart any separatist attempts. The body unanimously voted to confirm Xi's second term Saturday, while only two lawmakers opposed an earlier decision to repeal term-limits.

This could prompt fears of what a highly-modernized Chinese army might mean for its many territorial disputes in the region, including in Taiwan and the South China Sea. "China's aim is to ensure that both domestic and foreign firms, and companies under all kinds of ownership structure, to be able to compete on fair terms in China's large market".

"Only those who are accustomed to threatening others will see everyone as a threat".

The legislature also approved the biggest government shake-up in years, merging the banking and insurance regulators to tackle financial risks, and amended the constitution to expand the Communist Party's role in the country's affairs.

Meanwhile, Premier Li Keqiang used his once-a-year news conference to say China was committed to global co-operation on trade.
