Protests against Ram Rajya Rath Yatra, Edappadi K Palaniswamy in Tamil Nadu

Leaders of various parties including Thirumavalavan of VCK and Jawahirullah of MMK were arrested as they proceeded to Kottaivasal along Kerala-Tamil Nadu border to block the yatra.

DMK leader Stalin in a statement demanded that the state government "forthwith ban the yatra being undertaken by the VHP". The government on Monday night imposed Section 144 in Tirunelveli; the restrictions will remain in force until March 23.

Chennai: Protests erupted across the state and leaders of political parties and other organisations were arrested on Tuesday as the Ram Rajya rath yatra organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) entered Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu. So far, almost 40 persons have been arrested who were demonstrating against the yatra. "You can not allow religious fanaticism in the soil where Periyar and Anna were born". He claimed that the yatra poses a similar threat to inter-religious harmony here, and urged the collector to deny permission for the yatra. Interestingly, if reports are to be believed, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was supposed to flag-off the yatra. The yatra is now passing through Sengottai and is expected to culminate at Rameswaram by March 25.
