One year after Watson disappeared from among the elite in golf, he has won his last two starts.

Noren finished third with a 5 and 3 win over Justin Thomas, whose loss to Watson in the last four prevented him from moving to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.

Ladbrokes Coral's director of exchange, Shane McLaughlin, added: "The Match Play Championship markets were strong all weekend and one customer didn't have too many anxious moments in the final when he backed Bubba Watson for £10,000 at 1.64 to win £16,400".

Watson will play Justin Thomas in the opening semi-final, while Sweden's Alex Noren will tackle American Kevin Kisner. In the championship match, he won the first five holes against Kisner, who didn't make a birdie until the 11th hole. Kisner pulled even with an eagle on the 12th from 51 feet and won on the 12th, where the playoff started, with a birdie from five feet. The lead changed hands several times before Thomas made a decisive move with three straight birdies starting from the 10th to give himself a 3 hole lead which he never relinquished, eventually winning 2 and 1 on the 17th.

Rory McIlroy turned his attention to completing the career grand slam by winning the Masters after his bid for a second WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play title came to a disappointing early end.

'I've just been trying to play my game.

"It was such a grind out there you had to focus so much on every shot, whether it was a wedge shot into the green or a three-foot putt", Reed said after clinching victory by slamming home a 40-foot birdie putt from off the green at the 17th hole. "And you're constantly getting questions about it with the media".

"There's stories all different directions that didn't go the way I saw it", he said. Kisner found himself five down after as many holes, perhaps the effect of a gruelling semi-final against Alex Noren which stretched to a 19th hole.

Islamic State claims attack in Afghanistan, provides no evidence: statement
"One was killed in firing and the other triggered his explosives causing casualties", he said. Islamic State through its Amaq news agency claimed responsibility for the bombing.

"I guessed wrong on No. 7", Watson said of his lone bogey.

He played poorly in the final and handed Watson several holes.

Noren and Thomas will face off in the third-place match.

"That was a tough match", Kisner said. "If you want No. 1, just beat me, and you'll be No. 1".

The biggest margin of victory in this event was the 8 and 7 romp Tiger Woods enjoyed against Stewart Cink in the 2008 final, so at least Kisner avoided that fate. Six years old, having one golf club for a year, no lessons.

"And then, making the putts, I got a new putter, first week I used it was LA (Genesis Open) and they took two putters and welded it together, I'm using this putter that's two putters in one".

Though Garnett finished first on the Web.com Tour's regular-season money list previous year, he entered the event in the Dominican Republican without a top-15 finish.

LPGA - Eun-Hee Ji of Korea shot a final-round 67, highlighted by an ace on the par-3 14th, for a four-day aggregate of 16-under 272 to win the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, Calif.
