Manchester United defender Chris Smalling scored the victor after two quick goals by Paul Pogba cancelled out first-half goals by Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan.

City was cruising towards the win they needed to seal the silverware thanks to first-half goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan at Eastlands.

Chris Smalling then volleyed home the victor in the 69th minute, handing City a second straight defeat following their 3-0 Champions League reverse at Liverpool on Wednesday. "That's why I congratulate Man City because they are going to win the title, they deserve to win the title".

Inevitably, the goals that drew United level both came from Paul Pogba - a day after City manager Pep Guardiola claimed he was offered the chance to sign the Frenchman in the January transfer window.

But in Saturday's clash at the Etihad Stadium, with City 2-0 up and ready to celebrate the Premier League title, Pogba delivered.

Now four points clear of nearest rivals Liverpool with a game in hand, the second half was an impressive show of strength that suggested they can narrow the gap to City next term - and beat Tottenham in this month's FA Cup semi-final.

In particular, wild speculation was rife that the Spaniard was giving the midfielder an apology or explaining his position after the huge talking point of the week with him saying he was offered the United star.

Zinedine Zidane says Real Madrid would not honour Barcelona title win
Zidane finished his talk with his future plans, "I did not talk to anyone in the club about my future, things are the same". It is seemingly a no-win situation for Real Madrid on Sunday.

Manchester United's performances under Jose Mourinho can be hard to watch sometimes but he really got his team pumped up for the derby to be fair.well, for the second-half at least.

While City will inevitably go on and clinch their third top-flight title in seven years, United will have taken enormous pride in spoiling the Citizens' big day.

Mourinho believes either Guardiola or Raiola is lying but insists he is not interested in the ongoing feud between the pair, which has stemmed from the City manager's time in charge of Barcelona.

"I told at half time my midfield players couldn't play any better than they had been playing".

Guardiola opted to rotate his side with Tuesday's Champions League tie against Liverpool looming on Tuesday as Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Sergio Aguero were all named on the bench.

The Red Devils were 2-0 winners against Swansea City in the Premier League at Old Trafford last weekend.

"It was important for the players to stay confident". "They were incredible today and have been fantastic all season and they can help us so much".
