Scott Walker says he welcomes President Donald Trump's move to deploy National Guard troops to the border with Mexico.

The governor met with New Mexico National Guard leaders over the weekend to determine deployment plans and duty assignments, The Washington Post reported.

The deployment came after Texas National Guard commander Brigadier General Tracy Norris announced on Friday that she was moving 250 troops to the state's own border with Mexico within 72 hours, "with supporting aircraft, vehicles and equipment".

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey plans to send 338 troops to the border.

California has not decided whether to send National Guard members to the border with Mexico to help President Donald Trump's deployment of troops to fight illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas all made new pledges that add up to nearly half of the up to 4,000 troops Trump requested.

"This is the kind of things states do", McMaster said.

New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez's office talked about that larger than 80 troops would deploy later this week.

Buckingham left the band once before in 1987, returning for a tour in 1996 and remaining a steady member since. Neil Finn has joined rock giants Fleetwood Mac , replacing Lindsey Buckingham for the forthcoming tour.

Last Friday, Ducey announced that as many as 150 Guardsmen could be deployed to the border this week. The Guard did not say what other DHS agencies the troops would assist, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is responsible for immigration detention and deportations, is a separate entity from the U.S. Border Patrol.

But McMaster told The Associated Press his offer Monday to Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was not political. "But it certainly is about border security".

"How dare Ducey claim that he's a friend of the Hispanics ... and then at the same time agree with this racist president?" she said.

On their way to the border, Guardsmen will pass through a National Guard Base at Pinal Air Park just north of Marana.

"We're glad that they are coming", said one rancher who didn't want to be identified. "You show me somebody who is for drug cartels or human trafficking or this ammunition that's coming over a wide-open and unprotected border here".

There is no end date for the deployment, Abbott said: "We may be in this for the long haul". SC sent troops to the border during Operation Jump Start, the border deployment ordered by Bush in 2006.

Trump had said on Thursday that the final deployment would range from 2,000 to 4,000 troops, and he would "probably" keep many personnel on the border until his promised border wall is built. Jerry Brown and has not made a public commitment to sending troops from his state's National Guard.

Joel Villarreal, the mayor of Rio Grande City in Texas, said he did not agree with what he characterized as "the militarization of the border".
