Ford has unveiled the facelifted Escort at a special event in Chongqing, China.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen will be available in the new Focus along with other features including wi-fi hotspot, motion-activated liftgate, telematic services, and selectable drive modes in some trims. These can be matched to either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic. It will also enable the Ford Pass smartphone app to perform a variety of useful functions such as show you where your auto is, check fuel levels, remote start the engine (only for the eight-speed automatic version) and remote lock or unlock the doors.

THIS IS the new 2018 Ford Focus, the fourth generation version of Britain's best-selling family hatchback. More interior space than prior Focus models makes ingress and egress easier and seating more comfortable. The Focus is on sale now, with deliveries reaching customers in September.

The estate boot space has been created to comfortable fit a dog crate, so Fido should be happy about the new Focus. It has sold more than 15,000 already in 2018, making it the fourth best-selling vehicle in the United Kingdom despite being due a refresh.

Update as I type: first image of the Ford Focus hatchback. Ford has already committed to making 90-percent of its new global vehicles internet connected by 2020, and the Focus will be one of them. It then sends a signal for adjust the rear dampers accordingly. The family hatch will be £2210 cheaper than the outgoing model and be cheaper to run thanks to a new range of petrol and diesel engines. The lighter 1.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre EcoBlue will use a torsion beam, which Ford would rather refer to as a twist-beam, but infused with Ford-patented force vectoring spring technology borrowed from the Fiesta ST.

Engines include 1-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre petrols (including the first production-car cylinder deactivation of a 3cyl).

The diesel engines consist of a new 1.5-litre and the existing 2-litre four-cylinder EcoBlue units, producing between 94 and 148bhp.

Outside, Ford said designers focused on aerodynamics, which should reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency. A hot ST model will also be added to the Focus in due course.

Ford describes the interior of the redesigned Focus as more "refined and upscale". Behind the familiar elements though, the Focus has been completely reshaped.

The front pillars are pushed back a bit for a more coupe look so there is a noticeably longer bonnet and strong front end.

The popular rival to the likes of the VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra is now in its fourth generation, and will arrive in the summer with prices starting from around £20,500. The area from the rear door handle to the rear lights is especially busy.

ST-Line cars adopt more aggressive bumper treatments and lower sills for a supposedly dynamic appearance, while Vignale models have a heavier-handed use of chrome on the front bumper and window surrounds. There are also plans for an Active crossover Focus, with raised suspension and plastic wheelarch cladding. On the one hand it wants to offer more Focus variants in different markets; on the other, it wants to simplify the line-up. Automatic cars receive a new rotary controller and paddleshift combination, opening up more storage space in the centre console.

The Ford Focus ST-Line, for Europe.

It is impossible at this remove to gauge what will be standard, trim specific or optional.
