Of course, there's no way Apple can literally use 100 percent clean energy to power all of its operations.

The company also announced that nine of its new manufacturing partners have committed to building Apple products with power from renewable energy sources.

Cook pledged: "We're committed to leaving the world better than we found it".

That includes solar arrays and wind farms as well as other renewable technologies like biogas fuel cells, micro-hydro generation systems and energy storage technologies.

The company also announced that it has contracts to purchase three gigawatts of output from renewable energy products and to date its renewable energy contracts have contributed to $3bn in new capital investment around the world. It is now the largest LEED Platinum-certified office building in North America that brings together solar, biogas, batteries, and a microgrid controller to keep everything playing nicely together to meet the energy needs of the facility.

The achievement informs consumers around the world that it's not only possible for massive publicly traded global corporations to source 100% of their energy from renewables, but that its also the right financial decision. In addition, the company has 15 more projects now undergoing construction that when done will be capable of producing 1.4 gigawatts of clean renewable energy, spread across 11 countries.

For example, 485 megawatts of wind and solar projects have been built in China to address emissions from its huge manufacturing presence in the country. The company has claimed that it now has 25 renewable energy projects in operation around the globe and generates 626 megawatts.

Organising committee manager Peter Beattie urged the athletes to return and implored them not to disregard laws that are in place. They're young, fit and seemingly intent on enjoying themselves while on the Gold Coast .

The company's sites worldwide are now completely powered with clean energy, according to a statement Monday.

Google now has 26 renewable energy projects around the world, and more in the pipeline. Incidentally, Apple has been working towards this goal for approximately the last ten years and has been strengthening its position by buying green energy bonds and investing in other renewable resources.

As explained by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, "RECs are issued when one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity is generated and delivered to the electricity grid from a renewable energy resource".

The push toward renewable energy has included some creative solutions, including 300 solar rooftops in Japan and 800 in Singapore.

Apple is now constructing two new data centers in Denmark. But perhaps just as important, Apple is bringing along everyone-from suppliers to local utilities-along for the ride, reports Fast Company.

"There were some hours when thermal fossil power plants and/or imports were required to complement the electricity supply of Portugal", the Portuguese Renewable Energy Association (APREN) reported. Luxshare-ICT's production for Apple is predominantly located in eastern China.
