Yemen's Houthi rebels fire ballistic missile at Saudi capital

The Saudi air defense forces on Wednesday successfully downed two hostile drones over the southern cities of Abha and Jazan and intercepted three ballistic missiles fired toward Riyadh, Najran and Jazan by the Houthi militias from the Yemeni territories. The Houthis and their allies have used the drones to disable Patriot missile defense systems deployed by Saudi-led forces in Yemen, said auto.

The rebels in neighboring Yemen, known as Houths, have established missiles in Riyadh in recent weeks, and dozens are terminated in southern Islamic cities that boundary Yemen.

Saudi Aramco operates a 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Jizan, part of a new economic city on the Red Sea.

"The air force announced the execution of air strikes with the Qasif 1 aircraft on Aramco in Jizan (province)", al-Masirah said on its official Twitter account, according to Reuters.

Aramco was not immediately available to comment on the missiles.

The Houthis have stepped up ballistic missile attacks on the kingdom in what it says is retaliation for the air raids.

Yemen-based Al-Masirah TV gives another version, saying that the missile launched by the Yemen Houthis targeted the Saudi Defense Ministry in the capital.

The Saudi-led coalition - which includes the UAE - intervened in the Yemen war in 2015 at the request of Yemeni President Abdrabu Mansur Hadi.

The arms monitor Conflict Armament Research (CAR) said it has evidence showing the Qasef-1 and other Houthi kit was made in Iran and was not of indigenous design and construction "in contrast to Houthi statements".

The Command of the Joint Forces of Coalition warned the Houthi armed militia supported by Iran against targeting civilian areas and people. Turki al-Maliki, said that at 7:40 am local time, air defense systems were able to detect an unidentified object in the direction of Abha International Airport and was dealt with accordingly.
