He joined Jeff Hornacek on the unemployment line, after Hornacek's two-year stint as the New York Knicks' coach apparently ended in the wee hours Thursday morning.

Like so many predecessors, Hornacek was sacked rather unceremoniously, shortly after a victory Wednesday night over the Cavaliers in Cleveland, which concluded the Knicks' 29-53 season. Another Jackson hire, Kurt Rambis was also let go in the process but given that he was even less popular than Hornacek in NY, we doubt any tears will be shed over that move either.

The New York Knicks plan to reach out to Villanova coach Jay Wright about becoming their new head coach, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

Though he had one more year left on his contract, the Knicks felt it best to let him go now and start over.

Knicks brass evidently did not agree, as Hornacek, who was hired by Mills and Phil Jackson in the summer of 2016, helmed the team to his second straight disappointing season.

The Knicks haven't made the postseason since 2013, and have one playoff series win in the past 18 years.

"Jeff is a good guy", forward Michael Beasley said after Wednesday's victory. "It's hard to do anything because all you're thinking about is not to mess up". While he's spent his time working as an analyst, rumors of him clashing with management in Oakland seems to be a reason why he hasn't been able to secure another head coaching job in the National Basketball Association.

Vogel didn't get any breaks this season, as Magic players combined to miss a combined 227 games due to injuries or illnesses, and a 4-27 record from November 11 to January 12 sent Orlando careening back to the draft lottery. However, there are a number of other teams interested in him too, namely the Orlando Magic.

Coaches say a lot of things that seem like denials, especially college coaches, and Wright didn't technically mention the Knicks by name. That said, it was projected that neither of them would be on the market for long.
