Father Throws 6-Month-Old Daughter off Roof in Standoff With Police

It was reported by the Daily Mail that other protesters were heard egging him on by chanting: "Throw, throw, throw".

The 38-year-old man had climbed onto the roof of a shack with his infant daughter to protest the demolition of dozens of buildings and dangled the young child over the edge of the roof as police tried unsuccessfully to talk him down.

The man had reportedly climbed onto the roof of his shack just as officers had begun returning calm to the demolition project.

The 38-year-old man on the roof was subsequently arrested and officially charged by police with attempted murder.

As the events reached a dramatic climax, the man swung the baby over the roof by her ankle, but thankfully she was caught by waiting forces below.

Facebook page, the incident took place during a demolition operation by the Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality of alleged illegal shacks in the Joe Slovo West area of Kwadwesi. A total of 90 structures were demolished, police said.

Captain Beetge said the baby was given back to her mother and that authorities were working to ensure the child's safety. "The father will face the full force of the Law for his actions", the Motherwell Cluster Commander Major General Dawie Rabie said. The girl's father immediately punched Hernandez-Velasco in the face, knocking him to the ground.

The 90 shacks which had been built illegally on unowned land were then taken down.
