Unnao rape: CBI arrests BJP MLA

When the country is aghast at the rape of the eight-year old, some politicians are out giving insensitive statements on the rape case.

The character of the leaders of the BJP, when it comes to women's safety or communal politics, is there before the country and people will give an answer to it, All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev told reporters here.

Her family alleged that she was raped by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his accomplice previous year, and no action was taken against the accused.

AS per reports of TOI Banagarmau MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is being questioned by the CBI officers, they said.

The CBI early morning move came after the Allahabad High court came down heavily on Adityanath Yogi govt on the Bangarmau BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

The bench passed the order on a letter written by senior advocate Gopal Swaroop Chaturvedi demanding a court-monitored investigation of the incident and treated it as a PIL.

CBI officials also took over records such as treatment prescription, ultrasound reports and details of the post-mortem which was conducted by a panel of doctors. The accused was held by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for scrutinising goal on early Friday morning.

Another CBI team visited the hotel in Unnao where the victim is housed under police protection to take her statement.

A joint team of the CBI and UP cops picked him up from an Indiranagar residence of his kin at around 4:30am.

The court will monitor the case again on May 2.However, Sengar has maintained his innocence and claimed that he has been framed in the gangrape case.

Sengar and his brother were also accused of brutally assaulting victim's father, who was fighting to get her daughter justice. The victim's father died on Monday in police custody.

The Centre too acted with alacrity and referred the matter to the CBI last night.

Sengar, a four-time MLA, enjoys an huge clout, cutting across party lines, in the rural areas of Unnao district, a semi-urban area at a distance of about 70 km from Lucknow. The incident has triggered outrage. He also said that the family still fears for their life but were hopeful that no harm would come to them as the premier investigative agency had now taken up the case.

The eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by six men who had held her in captivity in a small temple village for a week in January.
