Narendra Modi opens health centre under Ayushman Bharat

Under Ayushman Bharat, the govt has chose to transform 1.5 lakh sub health centres to health and wellness centres in a bid to provide comprehensive primary healthcare.

"I want to make these districts not only "abhilashi" (aspirational) but also "mahtvakanshi" (ambitious) so that they emerge as a development model", said the prime minister.

"115 backward districts in the country will be given priority in the Ayushman Bharat scheme", Modi said.

"We want the benefits of our schemes to reach the last person and that is why the Gram Suraj Abhiyan will be held from today to May 5".

"The consciousness in the communities which have been left behind in the race of development is because of Babasaheb", the PM told the gathering. After so many years of independence these districts still remain backward.

The PM reiterated that the Centre is committed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the region and is working on a series of development projects including construction of roads, a steel plant, airport and railway corridors in Bastar and adjoining areas.

Modi is the first prime minister to visit the tribal district of Bijapur and this was his fourth visit to Chhattisgarh, where Assembly elections are due later this year. He also inaugurated a new rail line and a passenger train between Gudum and Bhanupratapur, bringing north Bastar region on railways map.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and Health Minister J.P. Nadda were also present.

He also launched Van Dhan scheme which was announced in the budget. The government aims to quip these centers to treat a variety of diseases, including diabetes, blood pressure, cancer and old-age illness.
