The Metro Nashville Police Department said the gunman, who was armed with a rifle, fled after a customer wrestled the weapon from him.

Police have identified 29-year-old Travis Reinking of Morton, Illinois as a suspect.

"In light of the current situation in our country - such as the arrest of two young black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks coffee shop - we felt it was important for our members to get a first-hand account of the incident, which has now gone viral on social media locally and across the country", Smith said. 29, physically confronted the gunman and likely saved several lives during the pre-dawn shooting, Don Aaron with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said.

One diner, James Shaw Jr., 29, who had hidden near the restrooms, dashed out and pulled the rifle from the gunman.

Shaw told the Tennessean in an interview that he was "just trying to get myself out".

"I looked back and I saw a person lying on the ground right at the entrance of the door, then I jumped and slid".

However, Shaw said he's not a hero.

"It is something out a movie. I'm OK though, but I hate that it happened".

Police spokesman Aaron said three people died at the restaurant and one person died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where two others were being treated for gunshot wounds. Two were in critical condition and one died later.

Shaw suffered minor injuries in the melee, including cuts and an injured elbow.

After the weapon was taken away from him, Reinking fled the scene and dropped his jacket, which police said had more ammunition in the pockets.

In May 2016, Tazewell County deputies were called to a CVS parking lot where Reinking told officers that Taylor Swift was stalking him and hacking his phone, and that his family was also involved, according to a report released Sunday.

Nashville Police are warning residents to keep their doors locked and their eyes open for a partially nude man following a shooting early Sunday morning that left four people dead.

Reinking, who is from Morton, Illinois, was subsequently released and was later interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and authorities in Tazewell County, Illinois.

The victims' names were not immediately released. "I'm just a regular person".

"I know that we all want to live in a safe environment that allows everyone to go to work or school and feel and be safe", Democratic Mayor David Briley said during a news conference on Sunday.

In July 2017, Travis Reinking was charged with unlawful entry after crossing an exterior security barrier near the White House, the Secret Service said in a statement. After the arrest, his IL firearms authorization was revoked and local IL police seized four weapons.

James Shaw Jr., shows his hand that was injured when he disarmed a shooter inside a Waffle House on Sunday, April 22, 2018, in Nashville, Tenn.

Police believe Reinking's father received the weapons after their confiscation, and returned them to his son.

Officials said Reinking had gone there hoping to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.
