I won't hinder Rooney if he wants to leave Everton, insists Allardyce

Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave and neither has Wayne Rooney had a confrontation with me.

Rooney, 32, who returned last summer to Everton after 13 seasons with Manchester United, is reportedly set to leave his boyhood club for a fee of around 12.5 million pounds ($17 million), reports Efe.

Wayne Rooney left Everton's training ground before the rest of the squad trained as rumours continue to swirl about his future at the club.

"Obviously I'd love him to stay, I remember having a conversation with him on the phone, he was one of the main players who got me here, so I am grateful for that, definitely".

Speaking at a press conference, Allardyce said on Friday he expected to find out more when he spoke to Rooney later in training and that he would be "comfortable" if any player wanted to move on.

And that is why Allardyce believes the Toffees are languishing in eighth with no chance of getting any higher heading into the final game of the season at West Ham.

The US transfer window does not open until July though a deal is agreed in principle with DC United.

When first asked about the deal, Olson told reporters in the USA: "I don't know what you're talking about". If any player wants to leave they can go.

In any event, it now appears to be a case of when, rather than if, the deal to bring Rooney to the MLS, following in the footsteps of former England teammates David Beckham, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole, in finishing his career in America.

"How can anyone be guaranteed playing time next season?" asked Allardyce.

Allardyce has played him in a midfield role in the second half of the season in an attempt to inject some creativity into the team but that has impacted on the player's personal form and led to growing frustration.

A number of MLS franchises held talks with Rooney's agent Paul Stretford more than a year ago before England's top goalscorer returned to Goodison Park from Manchester United. "He's never got carried away and that's why he's played so well and achieved so much". That's it. Next season is already planned.
