A 5-year-old Colorado girl is hospitalized with serious injuries after she was attacked by a bear outside her home.

The girl ventured outside at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to "investigate noises in the yard she may have thought was her dog", a news release from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) stated. The mother said she then heard screaming and went out to find her daughter being dragged by a large black bear. Pictured is a Wild American black bear believed to be similar to the bear involved in the incident. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it.
