Mr Dan Kurtzer, a former USA ambassador to Israel and Egypt who now teaches at Princeton University, suggested Mr Trump's administration could regain some credibility among the Palestinians if it were to pledge to open a U.S. embassy in East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians want as their capital, when a Palestinian state came into being.

"We want to thank you for the tremendous leadership of our great president, Donald J. Trump", Jeffress said.

The Trump administration blamed Hamas for the deaths of dozens of Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers on Monday during mass protests along the boundary fence, the deadliest day of violence since the 2014 Israel-Gaza conflict.

Ivanka Trump helped declare the new embassy open and a plaque and seal were unveiled before the 800 guests at the ceremony.

Trump administration officials have said their peace plan, whose chief architects are the President's son-in-law, Mr Jared Kushner, and Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt, is almost complete.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly praised Trump's decision to upend decades of USA policy by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"It's important that the United States recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on its official documents", the minister tweeted.

Trump's decision was criticised by Palestinians who had rejected Washington D.C's involvement in brokering a resolution to the age-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The embassy move is contentious for Palestinians who hope to claim part of Jerusalem as their future capital.

Israel also said its aircraft targeted a Hamas post in Jabaliya after troops in the area came under fire.

Saeb Erekat, a senior Abbas aide, said Monday that Trump had violated a promise to hold off on moving the embassy to give peace talks a chance and that his administration is "based on lies".

The State Department told The Associated Press in December that it does not plan to change several longstanding policies regarding Jerusalem that were carefully crafted to avoid offending Israel or the Palestinians.

The court had also granted two weeks to the Ministry of Interior to decide on placing his name on the Exit Control List (ECL). Pakistani officials had been demanding that the United States waive Col Hall's diplomatic immunity, but USA officials refused.

Macron will exchange views on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the statement.

Hamas denied instigating the violence, but the White House backed Netanyahu.

Along the Gaza border, crowds built throughout the day in the Palestinian enclave less than 100 kilometres (60 miles) away from Jerusalem and sealed off from Israel by a blockade.

President Tayyip Erdogan described the actions of the Israeli forces as a "genocide" and Israel as a "terrorist state".

"In the recent months we've witnessed so many laws that have the aim of controlling the demography", Asaad told Schlehuber.

"Iran's unprecedented missile attacks on Israel last week only confirm the president's decision, and this risky act of aggression only strengthened our resolve", Pence said.

Trump, in a recorded message, said he remained committed to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

Mansour at the United Nations echoed this view, saying there is "no chance" that Palestinians will engage in a USA -led peace process.

Jerusalem is Israel's capital.

Most countries consider East Jerusalem, which Israel annexed after capturing it in the 1967 Middle East War, to be occupied territory, including the Old City, home to sites considered holy to Muslims, Jews and Christians alike. He says the United States can no longer be considered a neutral broker in on-off Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and cannot have any future role.

"And I think it's plain to see the effects of this decision and the ramifications are wide reaching".
