Tammany Parish School Board set to trim property tax rate

Residents of Monroe County suburbs will be hitting the polls Tuesday to vote on school budgets and board of education members.

Most of the local districts have kept any project tax levy increase within the state mandated limit.

The proposed spending plan totals $19,005,267, which represents an increase over this year's budget of approximately $494,000 - or 2.67 percent.

Residents across the Hudson Valley are heading to the polls today to vote on school district budgets.

OUSD board members said they also weren't informed by the charter school about its plans to expand significantly by moving into the new campus.

The Martinez Unified School District Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in a closed session to consider labor matters and whether to expel certain students.

Rye Neck, on the other hand, stays below the tax cap, and voters in the school district will have to decide whether or not to approve a $41.4 million budget, which is 3.13 percent more than the 2017-18 budget.

Tomorrow, the Oakland City Council will vote on whether or not to sell city-owned land in the Fruitvale neighborhood to a charter school for its new campus. Mitchell's policy is patterned heavily on a model policy drafted by the Associated School Boards of South Dakota. They also are looking for ways to keep better the food served in schools.

The resolution is being submitted to the Board prior to adoption of the 2018-19 budget, and is based on multiple-year projections of the District's fiscal situation.

In the preliminary budget's general fund, there is $711,409 available for any appropriation desired by the trustees, Sarvey said.

Tonight's school board meeting is happening at 7 p.m.at the Hackley Administration building.

But several track students said in interviews that sports are not their only chance to succeed after high school; they said it's just another avenue for some students to do so.

The Board will recognize Student Representative Juliet Stephenson, an Alhambra High School senior who is one of two students, along with Alan Kobylik, who has been named a Citizen of the Year by the Martinez Chamber of Commerce.

In an effort to encourage "innovative strategies", the bill would free Ball State from reporting Muncie schools' performance via the annual A-F grades measuring school and district improvement.

A schedule for five followup meetings to take place in schools around the district will be released in the coming days.

The budget also calls for a 40 percent increase in the line item of curriculum and professional development to bring that figure from $89,000 to $123,000 - as well as the addition of a summer high school credit recovery/regents retake program.
