Cyclone men's golf tied for lead after second day at Stockton Regional

Nebraska Wesleyan shot a team score of 313 in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships that are being held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The recent UTEP graduate and lone Miner representative shot three birdies on the front nine, including consecutive birdies on holes No. 5 and No. 6, and only bogeyed once in his opening day run.

Round two will begin teeing off on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. on the 7,455-yard, par 71 Scarlet Course. Two of the birdies came on par 4s. He was one of seven players in the field of 76 to shoot under par.

Sophomore Luke Schniederjans (Powder Springs, Ga.), had just one birdie and two bogeys on his card and shot 72 (+1), while senior Chris Petefish (Danville, Calif.) struggled to a 74 and did not count for the Yellow Jackets. Tied for 11th, he birdied a total of four holes in the first round: 8, 13, 17 and 18.

Sophomore Sam Vincent shot a 2-under-par 70 to get to -6 for the regional, good enough for a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard. "We've been putting it together with 2-under, 3-under rounds, but obviously those numbers are out there". The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville fired a 5 over at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club while most of their rivals were shooting under par to fall eight spots into 10th place.

Tomorrow will determine the top five finishers that will advance to the NCAA Finals in Stillwater Oklahoma, from May 25-30th.
