Overwatch Crosses More Than 40 Million Players

Blizzard has published a new Overwatch blog post to announce that the game will be free to play on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Overwatch is ready to celebrate its two-year anniversary this month.

Kaplan also added that the Overwatch community now boasts 40 million players.

The new edition comes at a flawless time for new players considering picking up the game.

"Petra is handsome", Kaplan said during Wednesday's Developer Update video.

Overwatch's Jeff Kaplan was featured in the video and started by discussing the upcoming anniversary event. "We think you'll find that very fun".

Kaplan then moved on to discussing the new Overwatch map that Deathmatch players will get, a free-for-all map called Petra.

"There's parts of the map that are great for open, long-range heroes, there's parts of the map that are great for short-ranged heroes".

The brand new anniversary loot box will not only feature content from the new anniversary event, but will also allow players to pick up items from any of the previous events. Players logging during the event will receive a bonus Legendary loot box, guaranteeing one Legendary item.

Additionally, Overwatch Twitter account has shared the exciting announcement that Overwatch Anniversary will kick off on May 22 and bring back past brawls and cosmetics!

Eight legendary Anniversary skins will be released with the event, and Kaplan hinted that a certain hero will be coming to the event in formal wear.
