Arsenal 'to accelerate Mikel Arteta appointment'

Arsenal will be looking to appoint a manager capable of leading the Gunners to a Premier League title challenge, with the Gunners having failed to challenge for the title in recent seasons.

Patrick Vieira was left disappointed at Arsenal's "token gesture" after being contacted about the vacant managerial position at the club, say Sky sources.

New players may be arriving, and depending on the calibre of the new manager, numerous faces may be world class and considering Arsenal are not short of funds, the new boss would surely like to upgrade on the squad with some big names.

Arteta would seek to bring in at least three of his own appointments - with further backroom changes expected.

Neil Banfield - a first-team coach for two decades - and Boro Primorac are also on their way out at Arsenal, who continue to be linked with both Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta.
