Last week, BT also said it planned to exit its headquarters in central London.

EE is also launching a new support app which, with permission, will allow customer service agents to use the camera on a customer's phone to view problems they're having with a product or service and provide situation-specific support.

He said of Allera that the "drive for simplicity and focus on the customer will help increase loyalty among the more than 30 million users now served by the combined brands in the UK". While BT hasn't mentioned 2019 in its plans for its new converged Consumer Business Unit, it does outline that aims to "be first to market with 5G mobile to complement 4G".

"We're beginning our journey to create one converged, smart network built on our world-leading fixed and mobile networks - going beyond 4G, 5G, wifi and ultrafast broadband to seamlessly connect our customers wherever they are to the things that matter most to them".

EE is launching new converged ultrafast home broadband plans over broadband (FTTP, and 4G, which include 4GEE Backup and Home Move, keeping customers connected if there are issues with their connection or when they're moving house.

Still smarting from last week's dismal annual results, BT today made a raft of announcements for its consumer group, including a converged broadband and mobile network. EE will also launch new Flex pay-monthly mobile plans, allowing customers to increase or decrease their allowance or take a month's break, and get data boosts every three months of consecutive payments. This combines the superfast broadband network with with the 4G network.

EE is becoming the first United Kingdom network to support all major Smart Home ecosystems with new, strategic partnerships with Hive and Nest plus a wide range of smart cameras, thermostats, sensors and lighting - providing options for customers whether they prefer Hive, Google, Apple Homekit, or Alexa smart home ecosystems.

There's also good news for smartphone fans who run out of data on a regular basis with EE now revealing its new gifting service. "BT will be the first United Kingdom telco to offer Amazon Prime video to its customers". Sky has recently confirmed it will integrate Netflix, but there's no word on Amazon.

And what will matter a lot will be TV content and the new move will see BT TV become the first United Kingdom company to include the Amazon Prime Video app as part of the EPG delivered through its set-top box.

By 2020, all customer service calls will be answered in the United Kingdom and Ireland, whilst BT Stores will return to High Streets, presumably leveraging floor space from the extensive EE Store network.

In time for the next football season, EE customers will be able to access new BT Sport app features - including the ability to cast direct from their mobile to their TV with inclusive data.
