The body was discovered in the building on Clonee Road in Lucan at around 1pm on Thursday and the scene was sealed off.

Speaking to RTE Supt John Gordon, who is leading the investigation, said gardai believe Anastasia may not have been alone at the time she went missing and are now trying to identify and speak to those people who last saw her.

The dead girl's body lay undiscovered in a derelict farmhouse less than 1km from St Catherine's Park in Lucan, where she was last seen alive at about 5.30pm on Monday.

It follows the discovery of a body in a disused house on the Clonee Road in the Lucan area.

'It's quiet here and it's a popular park, we're not sure how this could have happened'.

He added the searching since Monday had been extensive.

Ana was a first-year student at Confey College secondary school in Leixlip.

Local TD Catherine Murphy, of the Social Democrats, said she had been close friends with Ana's family for decades.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place this morning.

"We have a full investigation, we have the Technical Bureau, an incident room has been established and we are also receiving assistance from the NBCI and other external garda agencies as well", he said.

"She was a particularly striking girl; quite tall for her age and very well known in the locality because of that", Supt Gordon said.
