DirecTV Now officially released Tuesday the much-anticipated update to its streaming service for Apple TV users with 20 hours of cloud DVR capability and an expected re-designed of its look and feel.

The DVR - which AT&T calls the "True Cloud DVR" - will offer users 20 hours of free recording, support for fast forward and rewind, and the ability to store shows for up to 30 days. In the first three months of 2018, AT&T added 312,000 DirecTV Now net new customers to reach 1.46 million subscribers. A $10 per month upgrade this summer will increase DVR storage to 100 hours for up to 90 days.

DirecTV Now currently limits subscribers to two concurrent streams per account, and this update adds the option to tack on a third stream.

It should be no surprise that AT&T is charging for the additional stream, and the expanded DVR capability.

Travel with your Locals - granted the local is also available in the market you're traveling to, you can now stream your local channels when you travel. While Donovan did not go into pricing details, he said that AT&T would be able to tackle parts of the market it can not get into because of present satellite signal sight issues or residences with landlords who prohibit the installation of satellite dishes. By comparison, PlayStation Vue, the live streamer owned by Sony, offers five simultaneous streams while Hulu has six. DIRECTV NOW says that the new interface is available for iOS and tvOS customers, with Android, Fire TV, Roku and other platforms coming in the next few weeks.

Local Channels on the Road. However, they can now watch local channels on the road, if a network affiliate is available in that area.
