BTS becomes first K-pop band to top US album chart

I congratulate you on the album "Love Yourself: Tear" reaching No. 1 on the United States" "Billboard 200.' It's the first time in 12 years for an album in a language that is not English, and the first time ever for a Korean artist.

"Tear", the new album by the Korean boy band BTS, has opened at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart.

"Tear" had the equivalent of 135,000 sales in the United States in its first week out, of which 100,000 were copies sold as a full album, according to Nielsen; streams and downloads of individual tracks made up the rest.

K-pop septet BTS are making an encore appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show today, where the group performed their new single "Fake Love" and a second song, "Airplane Pt. 2", as an online-only exclusive. Unbeknown to them, a staffer - outfitted to look like a typical BTS fan - is hiding in the corner table and jumps up, giving them all a scare in what's become one of the show's signature pranks. They have a magical ability to turn sadness into hope, and difference into similarity.

Fans on South Korea's internet portals were delighted to see a Korean musical export hit the top of the album charts in the world's largest music market. The show also released a behind-the-scenes video of BTS meeting with fans who were freaking out in her Riff Raff Room.
