Manchester United are on the verge of signing Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot, more commonly known simply as Dalot, after the club reportedly met his release clause of £17.5 million.

Liverpool have already moved to sign Fabinho and now it looks as though Manchester United are about to announce their first signing of the summer.

Sky Sports reports that United are in talks for Dalot, a 19-year-old who only made eight senior team appearances this past season.

But they were left powerless when United activated his buy-out clause of 20million euros or £17.4million.

He is a natural right-back but played as a left-back on that night, meaning he would add versatility to Mourinho's squad.

The need for reinforcements as far as the wide defence is concerned is evident at Old Trafford.

Strengthening his defence is a priority and a new right-back to act as a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia is desperately needed as the Ecuadorian worldwide turns 33 in August.

FC Porto though, have been doing all they can to retain Diogo Dalot, despite their urgent need for revenue in order to comply with FFP regulations.

The Portugal Under-21 star is preparing to discuss personal terms with the Red Devils, according to The Telegraph.

The 19-year-old is expected to be the first of a few defensive incomings at Man United during the summer due to Jose Mourinho losing faith in his current options.
