The JoongAng Ilbo reported last month that Xi promised Kim in their Dalian summit active support for North Korea even if the North-U.S. summit does not turn out well.

With Iran as a precedent, Congressional Democrats likely believe they too can play spoiler for a high-profile diplomatic accomplishment of a president from the other party, and can greatly undermine any denuclearization agreement, risking U.S. compliance with it going forward.

"Through these series of meetings, I'm confident we're moving in the right direction. It could be nothing short of tragic to let this opportunity go to waste", Pompeo said. He noted that Russian Federation, as a nation that shares a border with North Korea, is frightened by the prospect of a conflict. It's also home to what might be the world's single-biggest rare earth deposit, a crucial element for electronic auto engines and many high-tech gadgets the South is so good at churning out.

Trump said late last week that the meeting will take place on June 12 in Singapore. Economically at least, there could be plenty of upside.

Next week's historic summit between Trump and Kim is expected to focus on denuclearization and the Hermit Kingdom's role in the global economy. Kim, officials say, is determined to ensure any economic advantage comes to him and his immediate family and loyalists. The newspaper pointed out that the U.S. and Singapore still had still not figured out who should pay the bill in order to not offend the North Korean leader.

Ms Sanders called the letter that top North Korean official Kim Yong-chol delivered from Kim Jong-un to Mr Trump on Friday "interesting" but wouldn't comment on its contents.

Star Wars fatigue hits Solo at USA box office
The movie was directed by Ron Howard after original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord were fired during production. Solo: A Star Wars Story is now playing in theaters. "They each do well and people aren't asking these questions".

Trump has credited his "maximum pressure" policy with bringing North Korea to the negotiating table.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov proposed the location and time during a meeting recently in Pyongyang with Kim, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said on Monday in Moscow.

Donald Trump had responded by saying, "I too have a nuclear button, but it is a much bigger and more powerful one than his, and my button works".

The White House has been tight-lipped about Trump's preparations for the summit.

The US imposed those sanctions two years ago, as part of the Obama administration's effort to isolate North Korea, but it came as the Kim government rapidly developed its nuclear program.

South Korea paid $2.5 million to cover the costs of more than 400 North Koreans, only 22 of whom were athletes, at the Pyeongchang Games in February.
