Zidane is now on the hunt for a new challenge after making the surprise decision to leave Real Madrid at the end of last month.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger have been linked with the role, but Guti has now reportedly emerged as the frontrunner.

Guti - who made over 500 appearances for Madrid as a player - was backed by Frenchman Zidane as a future head coach at the capital club in February.

Former Los Blancos stars Michael Laudrup and Jose Miguel Gonzalez Martin del Campo, also known as Michel, were added to Real's list of potential candidates by Marca, and even Clarence Seedorf's name has been mentioned.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has rejected an approach from Real Madrid for him to become their next permanent manager, according to Sky Sports Italia.
