The French club's president Jean-Michel Aulas had hoped a bidding war would ensue for Fekir.

The Lyon captain has informed his boyhood club of his preference for Anfield and the deal is expected to be finalised before the 24-year-old heads to the World Cup.

And Liverpool's signing of the striker, who will undergo a medical this Friday in Liverpool before the move is officially announced, could be absolutely key to the summer transfer market.

"The deal will certainly not close during the World Cup and I do not think there is any change before the World Cup".

Having already signed Fabinho from Monaco, Jurgen Klopp is clearly looking to bolster his midfield options. Fekir is set to play for France on Saturday evening against the US, a game that will take place in Lyon's Stade des Lumieres.

A fourth transfer could soon be on the cards with reports claiming a £12m deal for Stoke's Xherdan Shaqiri could be in the pipeline. "We haven't set a price tag because we haven't discussed this [Fekir's transfer] yet".

A fee has yet to be revealed, although it is rumoured that Liverpool will have to pay around €65m (£57m approx) to make Fékir their second summer signing.

Lyon's £60m playmaker has been keen on a switch to Liverpool despite interest from Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
