The son of Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett is now facing an attempted murder charge after LAPD detectives turned over new evidence linking Redmond O'Neal to a "crime spree" that includes a vicious stabbing in Venice Beach and other crimes in the Palms neighbourhood in Los Angeles, can report exclusively.

On Friday, authorities announced that O'Neal has additionally been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count each of attempted murder, criminal threats, brandishing a knife and battery.

O'Neal, who has had a history of drug and legal troubles, has been held without bail by the Los Angeles County sheriff since his arrest on May 8, for the alleged armed robbery of a 7-Eleven store, according to police and CNN affiliate KABC.

Police say two men were seriously injured, including one who was stabbed in the face.

"After O'Neal's arrest, the violent crime spree ended", police said in a statement, "and Pacific Area robbery detectives found O'Neal to strongly match the description of the suspect in these crimes".

He is now in custody at the Los Angeles County Jail.

Authorities said O'Neal was identified in some of the crimes by distinctive tattoos and his red hair.

The alleged spree started on May 2 when O'Neal "became angry" because a man "appeared to look at him". O'Neal also allegedly tried to attack another victim with a broken glass bottle. Hours later, on May 3 at 3:30 a.m., he allegedly got into another fight with a stranger and punched him repeatedly. The victim sustained serious stab wounds and cuts to his face, neck and upper body. Two stabbings, one near the Venice Beach Boardwalk, including one that left a victim in a pool of his own blood with wounds to his head. Nearby surveillance video captured a man fitting O'Neal's description, who walked away from the scene shortly after the victim was found lying on the sidewalk.

O'Neal is the only son of actors Ryan O'Neal, a star of TV and film, and Farrah Fawcett, the '70s icon and model whose acting career skyrocketed after her role in "Charlie's Angels".

O'Neal was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance.
