It will be open to the public when Yahoo Messenger shuts down.

Earlier today, Yahoo announced that it will forfeit its Messenger service effective July 17. Yahoo Messenger, which exposed the people to electronically communicate with each other without using a telephone in the good old day will see its ultimate demise, come July 17.

Yahoo Messenger was one of the first chat apps of its kind and has been around for nearly 20 years.

"Squirrel" is a group messaging app Yahoo started testing last month.

Oath didn't immediately respond to request for comment.

The announcement further notes that users will have six months to download their chat history from Yahoo Messenger; you can find more about this here.

The responses were compared to what an ordinary MSCOCO-trained AI returned, and you can see for yourself how twisted the AI is. MIT has created a new AI that we sincerely hope never escapes into the wild because this IS how you get Skynet .

The company now does not have a replacement for Yahoo Messenger. Yahoo, which Verizon acquired a year ago and folded into a new holding group called Oath, gave no precise reasons for sending Yahoo Messenger to the grave.

Since Yahoo Messenger's heyday, it has fallen into obscurity, largely at the hands of apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.

"Until then, you can continue to use the service normally", Yahoo! says. The desktop version was killed off in 2016 and, with Yahoo! transitioning from a standalone company to a piece of Verizon's Oath content network, many chunks of the old Purple Palace are destined for the scrap heap.

Yahoo Messenger: The first messenger app Yahoo Messenger was launched on March 9, 1998. Anyone logged into Yahoo could access the service at any time.

Users need to sign in on the site and type the Account Key that is sent to them by Yahoo. We looked at some when Aol shut down its Messenger, and the list of alternatives is fine for Yahoo Messenger users as well. "Messenger since its beginning as one of the first chat apps of its kind", Yahoo! acknowledged in posting the death notice.
