Putin says ready to meet Trump 'as soon as' Washington is ready

Trump has said he was open to having a summit with Putin, who U.S. intelligence officials have said directed Russian meddling in the 2016 election to help Trump win.

The American leader has repeatedly said he wants to improve relationships with Moscow.

"It wasn't us who left", he said.

Italy's new prime minister, Giuseppe Conte, seconded Trump's idea.

The Iranian president said his country was ready to cooperate with the SCO against terrorism, extremism and separatism.

Putin's latest trip has emphasised the positive mood music between the Russian and Chinese presidents which is underpinning the wider warming of ties. "I see this as an acknowledgement and an evaluation of Russia's efforts to develop a comprehensive strategic partnership with China", he said, making only passing mention of "our personal friendship".

Ahead of the annual meeting of G7 leaders, Trump said Russian Federation should be allowed back, a suggestion quickly rejected by Britain, France and Germany.

I can reiterate that in our last telephone conversation he expressed his concern about the threat of a new round of the arms race. Russian Federation was kicked out of the G7 after it annexed Ukraine's Crimea in 2014.

On Friday, Putin said both nations "are interested in establishing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula".

We are where we are because Mr Trump has taken a sword and sliced his way through conventional diplomatic behaviour. Ironically, Trump then started a trade war with Canada and the European Union during recent G-7 meetings.

Xi later called Putin "my best, most intimate friend", which is not an endearment any western leader is likely to give Russia's autocratic leader. "It's time to stop that chatter and deal with real issues".

On the sidelines of the two presidents'meeting, Iran and China also signed four memorandums of understanding for cooperation in various fields.

China is mired in tough negotiations with the United States to avoid a trade war, while Moscow has deep differences with Washington on multiple diplomatic fronts, including Syria and Ukraine.

"The recent example of such unilateralism and the defiance of the decisions of the global community by the USA government is its withdrawal from the JCPOA", he said, referring to the nuclear agreement by its official name, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

In his meeting with Putin, Rouhani said a "more serious and important" dialogue between Russian Federation and Iran was needed regarding the nuclear deal following Washington's "illegal" withdrawal from the pact, according to a Kremlin transcript.

Rouhani, for his part, denounced the "illegal" USA withdrawal from the global nuclear deal with Tehran.

Russian Federation did not choose to leave the G7 and would be happy to host its members in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday when asked about U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that Russian Federation should have been at its latest meeting.

Both leaders also issued a joint declaration pledging to preserve the worldwide accord on Iran's nuclear programme which the USA withdrew from last month.
