Xherdan Shaqiri responds to Liverpool speculation

With Shaqiri's eyes firmly on the prize of Russian Federation 2018, his team begun talks with Liverpool officials last Friday, Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones reports (via Stoke Sentinel).

Xherdan Shaqiri has insisted that his agents will take care of his future as he continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool FC this summer.

Reports suggest Shaqiri is available for a knockdown £13.5m as a result of Stoke's relegation from the Premier League, and the likes of Everton, West Ham, Spurs and Mark Hughes' Southampton are also said to be interested in a deal.

Having spent time in Germany with Bayern Munich and Italy with Inter, Shaqiri has not ruled out a move back to the continent, but believes that England is "perfect" for him.

Over the weekend, he told Blick: "The Anfield stadium is great, definitely". Today, Liverpool open talks to sign Xherdan Shaqiri....

Following the collapse of the Nabil Fekir deal, the importance of bringing in Shaqiri seems to have grown.

The attacker provided 8 goals and 7 assists last season but his efforts weren't enough to save Stoke from relegation to the Championship and understandably Shaqiri is a target for Premier League clubs this summer with the Mirror claiming that Tottenham are among those to have expressed their interest. He won't be linking with the Staffordshire club straight away as he will be heading to the World Cup after being selected in the Nigeria squad.
