First lady Melania Trump donned an Escada gown for the Ford's Theatre gala, where she honored Black Entertainment Television (BET) co-founder Sheila Johnson with the Lincoln Medal.

She also congratulated the recipients of this year's Lincoln Medal - an annual award given to people who have exemplified the legacy of President Lincoln through their achievements and bodies of work.

"I was honored to be part of such a special evening", said the first lady.

"Thank you to Ford's Theatre Society for tonight, and your continued dedication to education and leadership in the arts-the impact they have on society is invaluable and something we will continue to cherish throughout time", the statement added.

Mrs. Trump's Sunday participation in the gala was among the most visible appearances she has made since undergoing an embolization procedure for a benign kidney condition on May 14.

While First Lady Trump's whereabouts were cause of much speculation and the butt of many jokes, she made her first public appearance 24 days after surgery during a Memorial Day reception for Gold Star families. For that event, Donald was by her side.

Mr Trump then added: "And you know what? She's done a fantastic job as first lady".

Few details have emerged from the first lady's office.

The first lady and the president attended the Ford's event past year, and there are media photos of her on stage, dressed in a silky Grecian-style gown.
