North Korea summit can push nuclear disarmament process across globe

The final deal over the North Korean problem is yet to be signed, and the USA wants South Korea and China to be part of it.

Almost 7,800 American troops remain unaccounted for from the 1950-53 war in the Korean Peninsula.

President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a document on Tuesday stating that Pyongyang would work toward "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". "We did sanctions and all of the things you would do, but without the rhetoric...we wouldn't have been here".

"USFK has received no updated guidance on execution or cessation of training exercises - to include this fall's schedule Ulchi Freedom Guardian", U.S. Forces in Korea spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Lovett said in a statement.

He wondered if Kim will insist that the USA remove its "nuclear umbrella" from the region.

US forces in South Korea said it has "received no updated guidance on the execution or cessation of training exercises" and will continue to coordinate with South Korean partners and maintain the current posture until it receives an updated guidance from the Department of Defense or the Indo-Pacific Command. He also noted that the drills are quite expensive and the move will save a considerable amount of money for the USA budget.

"I was shocked when he called the exercises 'provocative, ' a very unlikely word to be used by a US president", the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because it was a politically sensitive issue.
