He also tweeted a few congratulatory comments to Republican candidates running in primary races Tuesday, in addition to taking a victory lap for his summit with Kim Jong Un. Even before that, the Carter administration ignored North Korea's proposal for a summit.

The coverage in the state-run paper, including 33 images of Mr. Trump, Mr. Kim and others at the summit, praised the "will of the top leaders of the two countries to put an end to the extreme hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S".

However, as reported by Firstpost on Tuesday, North Korea has been no stranger to reneging on its promises.

Trump's Tuesday meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un produced a wave of USA concessions in exchange for vague, nonbinding promises from North Korea.

Trump's claim that North Korea no longer poses a nuclear threat is questionable.

China won big at the summit after Trump made surprising pledges to suspend war games with South Korea and eventually pull USA troops from there.

United States presidents have made grudging deals with North Korea before, but none of them have ever showered the repressive country's tyrannical leaders with that sort of fulsome PR. "No longer - sleep well tonight!" the president wrote. "The world has been witness to repeated instances of duplicity from North Korea on upholding commitments that were more detailed and specific than what has been arrived at in Singapore". No details of what those steps would be were given. As the two leaders stood on opposite sides of the table for a photo opportunity, Trump prompted photographers to make them look "handsome and thin". "So we look nice and handsome and thin and flawless", he said.

It dubbed the summit in Singapore "the meeting of the century" on its front page. That concession to Kim appeared to catch the Pentagon and officials in Seoul off guard, and some South Koreans were alarmed.

But others said it's a great step forward for peace.

"We don't know what type of person the North Korean leader is negotiating with". Trump said at a press conference on Tuesday he would invite Kim to the White House "at the appropriate time".

"It was brutal. But a lot of people started to focus on what was going on including North Korea". I don't think they are recording it. Otto did not die in vain. Meanwhile, the world awaits the concrete outcomes of the detailed US-North Korea negotiations that will decide whether Trump's optimism was simply borne out of naiveté.

"Kim Jong Un and Trump had the shared recognition to the effect that it is important to abide by the principle of step-by-step and simultaneous action in achieving peace, stability and denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula", KCNA said. "That said, I do have some concerns based on some things Donald Trump did and said yesterday and also based on the fact that he is Donald Trump".

Kim, for his part, said the leaders had "decided to leave the past behind" and promised, "The world will see a major change".

He waved as he walked down a red-carpeted staircase and got into a limousine.
