Kim Jong-un Invites Trump to Pyongyang for Second Round of Summit

Another possibility from the summit is a deal to end the Korean War, which North Korea has long demanded, presumably, in part, to get USA troops off the Korean Peninsula and, eventually, pave the way for a North Korean-led unified Korea.

Trump and Kim are set to meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Singapore, which is 9 p.m. Monday on the U.S. East Coast.

Trump and Kim touched down on a sweltering early summer day in Singapore, the city-state founded in the early 19th Century as a British colony because of its position at the intersection of sea lanes between Europe and Asia. "We will all know soon whether or not a real deal, unlike those of the past, can happen!" Considering Trump has admitted that he hasn't prepared for this upcoming meeting, he will need to rely on his alleged "best negotiator" skills to get the job done.

The source says that the Pyongyang meeting, if it materialises, will follow up on the finer points of North Korea's denuclearisation which the two leaders are expected to broach at their first summit in Singapore on Tuesday (June 12). And Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sought to keep expectations for the summit in check.

In a report describing Kim's departure from Pyongyang, KCNA said a "changed era" had come about, adding that views on achieving denuclearisation and a "permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula" would be exchanged at the summit.

Singapore is one of the few countries that have diplomatic relations with both the United States and North Korea.

It "would instead lay out practical steps with requisite commitments from North Korea that demonstrate that it understands, accepts and is committed to achieving denuclearization as the US defines it", said Enos, who is also in Singapore to watch the proceedings. USA officials have said the leaders will meet for privately before holding an expanded bilateral meeting with their respective advisers.

Trump spoke only briefly in public on Monday, forecasting a "nice" outcome.

The worldwide community hopes that the encounter between Kim and Trump will also contribute to a greater understanding, finish the enforcement of sanctions and allow once and for all to end the crisis that on more than one occasion stoked the fear of a war break in the Korean peninsula. He told Lee: "We've got very interesting meeting in particular tomorrow, and I just think it's going to work out very nicely". German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she found Trump's tweet disavowing the G-7 statement "a little depressing". That's on par with the most recent Olympics held in South Korea, an event that took years to plan and lasted for weeks. As it happens, the North Korean and the American share a tendency to act unpredictably on the world stage. After their initial greeting, the leaders will head into a room for the summit.

In a sea of reporters and curious tourists, the two were North Korean media workers waiting to capture the image of their leader, who all North Koreans are duty bound to revere, arriving for a historic summit with President Donald Trump.
