Before his departure from Canada the previous day, he tweeted: "Based on Justin's false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our US farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our US Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the US Market!"

During an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Trump recounted seeing Trudeau's statement following the G7 summit in Quebec, Canada, during which the prime minister promised to fight back against the US's trade restrictions.

Last month, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his government would retaliate against Trump's tariffs by imposing import taxes on $12.8 billion worth of US imports in what Canada says its strongest trade action since the World War II.

"He really kinda stabbed us in the back", top USA economic advisor Larry Kudlow said of Trudeau on CNN's "State of the Union".

Trump's latest twitter tirade came after he arrived in Singapore for his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong-un. One of its early tweets read: numerous jokes were directed at the XX-year-old Canadian President, who bore the brunt of a twitter attack from President Trump and his White House advisers.

Trudeau said in a press conference that Canada will "move forward with retaliatory measures on July 1, applying equivalent tariffs to the ones that Americans have unjustly applied to us".

"That's going to cost a lot of money for the people of Canada", Trump said.

"Navarro himself crossed a line, basically telling a leader of a foreign nation that he needs to go to hell.I don't care how mad, how angry you are, you don't treat the head of state of another country like that unless you are getting ready for a military engagement of some kind". "The European Union is brutal to the United States".

"Ultimately that's what you want", Trump said. "I expect the Trump administration will double down and try to impose more tariffs", he added.
