Anand Vihar also featured in the areas with the most hazardous air quality recorded around 6:00 am this morning at 812. Regions and areas around the national capital have registered an air quality index value of 999 on June 13.

The air quality in Delhi deteriorated beyond the "severe" level because of a ground-level dust storm in western India which increased coarser particles in the air, the Central Pollution Control Board data showed.

The PM (particulate matter) 2.5 pollution level, which measures particles with diameters that are less than or equal to 2.5 microns in size, is yet to breach the pollution levels it had crossed in winters past year.

There was a sudden deterioration in air quality as the entire region was under the grip of dust brought by winds from Rajasthan, Iran and southern Afghanistan, officials said. "We have enforced it till Sunday", she said. While PM 10 does not cause severe health issues, PM 2.5 has been linked with fatal health hazards.

Germany migrant row threatens Merkel coalition
An ARD poll on Thursday found that 62 percent of Germans believe refugees without papers should not be allowed in. There is a risk that the CSU could break away, or at least trigger a confidence vote in Mrs Merkel's leadership.

High air pollution levels can cause respiratory problems even in healthy people and seriously affect people with lung/heart disease. At that time too, PM 2.5 was identified as the main pollutant. These are severe plus or emergency, severe, very poor, moderate to poor and moderate. The EPCA and the Lt Governor in Delhi have asked for the immediate implementation of the severe plus action under the Graded Response Action Plan. The amount of suspended particulate matter has reached harmful levels. Actions include capping emissions from thermal power plants, banning open burning of firewood and coal for heating and cooking and a ban on the use of diesel gensets.

"But when it comes to summer-time pollution, despite having air quality forecasts and predictions in place, I don't see any precautionary planning or announcements on the recommended emergency response measures", Sudhir said.

"At present, the atmosphere from ground level till 20,000 feet has dust". Despite the fact that Delhi suffered quite a lot of problems in November a year ago, the government seems to be taking no action against factories that keep on popping up everywhere.
