Another technical issue grounds flights on American in Charlotte

The regional carrier of American Airlines on Sunday canceled another 70 flights in and out of Charlotte-Douglas Airport.

Over 100 flights into and out of Charlotte were canceled due to a technical issue Thursday night, stranding passengers around the eastern half of the United States. As many as 275 American Airlines flights were affected, including some locally.

The airline said the issue happened to a regional carrier - PSA Airlines - causing Sunday morning and afternoon flights to be delayed. "This issue is not affecting any of our other regional carriers or mainline flights", the carrier added.

Inbound flights have been delayed to Charlotte Douglas International Airport after being held at their origin until Sunday, according to FlightAware.

WSOC has learned American Airlines is sending IT workers to Dayton, Ohio to help PSA Airlines fix the computer glitch that's canceled dozens of flights out of Charlotte over the past four days. Last week, a "technical problem" grounded more than 120 flights.

"We encourage all customers flying out Sunday evening or Monday to check their flight status on or the American Airlines app". This includes extended concession and checkpoint hours, additional aviation department support staff and making available emergency supplies to travelers including diapers, wipes and formula, blankets and pillows.
