EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for a potentially NBA-altering free agency, general manager Rob Pelinka fully understands that opposing teams will not be eager to help the Lakers build a potential super team.

The 6-foot-11 Wagner entered the draft after leading the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament championship game.

The Lakers acquired the 25th overall pick in the trade deadline deal that sent Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Channing Frye and Isaiah Thomas.

"I remember getting up at 3 a.m., watching the games", Wagner said. I just can't stop smiling.

The Lakers are expected to be a big player in the free agency market and it's been speculated the franchise will target LeBron James and Paul George. "That dream is very, very far away when you're over there, so it's exciting to be here".

"He said, 'welcome to the Family.' That means a lot", Wagner said. He dropped 21 points on Texas A&M and fellow first-round pick Robert Williams at the Lakers' home arena before cutting down the Staples nets after scoring 12 points in a victory over Florida State in the West Regional final.

"But we can control the environment we have here and creating energy where great players want to be Lakers".

The Lakers - who struggled from 3-point range last season (29th out of 30 teams) - surely are enamored with the Ukrainian sharpshooter's blistering 44.4 percent clip from the arc during his senior season. "Luke (Walton) was incredibly excited with the choices, and we're just thrilled with the way the night ended for us".
