Trump urged Republican lawmakers on Friday to drop their efforts to pass comprehensive immigration legislation until after the November congressional elections, flip-flopping on his appeal earlier in the week for Congress to act soon.

"Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November", Mr Trump tweeted. "You hear like they are better people than what we have, than our citizens, it is not true", he said.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department has gone to court in an attempt to overturn a decades-old settlement that limits the amount of time migrant children can be locked up with their families to 20 days.

The bill also would allow migrant families to remain together in detention.

"It's sickening that certain members of the media have chosen to attack our president. and Border Patrol agents and describe us as Nazis".

Trump often invited them to appear on stage at rallies or met with their families behind-the-scenes, attending the group's annual luncheon in Houston in September 2016 as he touted key campaign promises to build a wall and deport people who are in the U.S. illegally. "She may have even touched President Trump's heart", Denis Valera told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Avenatti, who has made headlines representing porn star Stormy Daniels in an unrelated lawsuit against Trump, said Merida-Galicia is among more than 60 immigrant parents he represents and 80 percent of them do not know where their children are.

Additionally, Trump signed an executive order earlier this week that overturned his administration's policy created to seperate undocumented famalies at the border.

Trump emphasized that for these families, separation is permanent.

Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke served as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers. Season 2 of the show suffered sizable ratings declines.

"Media reports alleging SDTX cases were dropped or dismissed are inaccurate and misleading", the office said in its statement, referring to the Southern District of Texas.

Trump's new message follows months of gridlock in Congress on immigration reform and his repeatedly blaming Democrats for the mess. The policy has resulted in more than 2,300 children being separated from their parents.

Later, one of the family members suggested migrant children are separated from their families five or 10 days. You don't know what's going on.

In a later tweet, Trump also accused Democrats of telling "phony stories of sadness and grief" to help gain the upper hand in this year's elections.

Friday afternoon, Trump spoke at the White House event to show "the other side" of the immigration debate.

In the meantime, federal authorities appear to be easing up on the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy of prosecuting all adults caught illegally entering the USA - though the Justice Department flatly denied there has been any change.

Trump's tweet, GOP aides said, could make the task of corralling votes for the bill significantly more hard heading into the weekend, though House Republican leaders said negotiations would continue. Differences between conservative and moderate Republicans delayed a vote initially planned for yesterday.

Republican leaders delayed a vote Thursday on what was billed as a compromise measure to fund border security and address legal status for young immigrants brought to the USA unlawfully as children, as they try to win more support for the bill.

Rep. Ted Lieu of California violated House rules Friday by playing a recording of crying children who were separated from their parents at the border, ignoring a presiding officer who implored him to stop. "I mean, we're getting some real beauties".
