Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul dies aged 54

Vinnie Paul, co-founder and drummer of Pantera, as well as a member of Damageplan and Hellyeah, has died.

Paul formed Pantera with his brother Dimebag Darrell, real name Darrell Lance Abbott, who was also the group's guitarist.

Former PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott has died. According to Billboard, Paul's representative no further details are available surrounding his death. The family has asked for everyone to respect their privacy at this time.

A cause of death is not immediately known. Cowboys From Hell, the bands first non-glam album, is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time, mostly for its massivily influencial groove-metal sensibility crafted by Paul and Darrell.

With Paul as an original member of Hellyeah, the band would go on to put out five albums in about10 years. The thrash metal icon passed away aged 54 his band mates have confirmed. And basically the singer wanted to move on, do some other things and really lost his focus, ' Vinnie said at the time. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale.
