With the Clippers looking forward to their next chapter, DeAndre Jordan looks like the last piece to be shed - and it could come soon.

The Mavericks have spoken with the Clippers about the possibility of acquiring center DeAndre Jordan in a trade, according to the New York Times.

Jordan, 29, has until Friday to decide whether or not to invoke his $24.1 million player option for next season.

Jordan and Dallas were close to joining forces in 2015 when the Texas A&M product committed to signing a deal with the Mavs as a free-agent before going back to the Clippers on a four-year, $87.6 million contract.

If he chooses to opt in, Dallas could conclude a trade for him before free agency begins. Jordan's rim protection and athleticism would make him a very good fit with the Mavericks, but he's not the only center that's been linked to them.

That is why he's been experimenting with a different model that he said he's still unsure about employing during the tournament. Although he was hardly the only golfer struggling to read the greens, Woods needed 58 putts over the course of 36 holes.

Would Mavs fans forgive Jordan?

As Stein notes, Jordan almost signed with the Mavs in 2015, and three years later Dallas still needs to upgrade at center.

When reports surfaced that Jordan was having second thoughts about the yet-to-be-signed contract, Paul and Griffin, along with Clippers owner Steve Balmer and coach Doc Rivers flew to Jordan's Houston home and reportedly wooed him all night.

Apparently Cuban is content letting bygones be bygones.
