Heat warning issued for Ottawa

Daytime highs are forecasted to reach the low to mid thirties with humidex values into the mid forties.

There is still a heat warning in effect with the temperature at 31 C but feeling more like 41C with the humidity - but with Westernerly gust of 48 km/h according to Environment Canada. "You'd have to go to the Caribbean, or India or some tropical countries to see that kind of a situation", he added.

A heat wave is usually announced, when the air warms up above 32 With three days in a row.

Parts of Quebec are also experiencing what Environment Canada calls "a significant heat event".

Toronto's medial officer of health has also issued a heat warning for the city.

In Ottawa, organizers are watching the weather to decide if the annual Canada Day show will take place on Sunday, Canada Day, July 1st.

Weather service believes that cool should not be expected even at night, the temperature at this time drops to approximately 25 C, which "does not ease the heat". Some public pools in the Montreal area will have extended hours to help people cool off.

"With all the planned outdoor activities of the long weekend, people should be aware of the predicted weather conditions and take the necessary precautions".

"Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink water", Roy said.

These hot temperatures could persist through next week.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for much of the Maritimes, including Halifax, Saint John and Moncton.
