James signed with the Lakers just hours after opting out of the final year of his contract with the Cavaliers.

A tweet from James's management company, Klutch Sports group, read: "LeBron James, four time NBA MVP, three time NBA finals MVP, fourteen time NBA All Star, and two time Olympic gold medallist has agreed to a four year, $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers". For the most part they seemed grateful to James for leading the team to their 2016 Championship win.

The Lakers have the salary-cap flexibility to become a behemoth once more, with James a huge pull for other stars wanting to challenge the Warriors' empire and attempt to upset the status quo.

He played seven seasons before earning fans' ire when he signed with the Miami Heat in 2010, forming what was dubbed the "Big Three" with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

When he was contacted by ESPN's Ramona Shelburne for an instant reaction, he simply said: "I LOVE IT".

And in June 2016, they beat the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in a deciding Game 7 to win the NBA Championship. Adding him could limit Los Angeles' options to simply signing free agents to minimum salary contracts.

Over the years, Stephenson also got under James's skin by getting in his face during playoff games, in addition to flopping and, on at least one occasion, making the "choke" sign.

James, 33, will not be the only veteran on the young team next season, however.

Lonzo Ball, 22-year-old Kyle Kuzma and 23-year-Josh Hart. Despite having a strong interest, the Boston Celtics are reportedly not willing to trade Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown for Leonard, while the Philadelphia 76ers refused to include Markelle Fultz in the trade package offered to the Spurs.

James also played a supporting role on-screen in 2015 Amy Schumer comedy "Trainwreck". After acquiring LeBron James, the Lakers are expected to go after Leonard next.

Ticket seller StubHub on Tuesday said visits to the Lakers ticket page were up 7,398 percent over the same date previous year even though next season's schedule has yet to be announced. Just a couple minutes later the official National Basketball Association store, operated by Fanatics, a sportswear retailer, was preselling LeBron James blanks (meaning the number was listed as "00", but wouldn't be produced until the official number was confirmed).
