Bethesda has been a great supporter of Nintendo Switch so far, but many are hoping a Fallout title will make it onto the platform.

In an interview with, Bethesda director Todd Howard said that he would "love" to have cross-platform compatibility in its forthcoming blockbuster "Fallout 76", but Sony has been "not as helpful as everyone would like it", adding that cross-platform play now isn't possible.

"We would love that, but right now we can't", Howard said when asked about enabling crossplay. Howard simply responded that Sony is "not as helpful as everyone would like".

With no mounts or vehicles in Fallout 76, and a world four times the size of Fallout 4, this news will come as a relief to some players, especially if you wind up loaded with loot a long way from your base.

The pressure may be getting to Sony - which gets hammered after every new announcement by gamers who want cross-play.

However, the senator later said she would be looking to precedent in her vote on Supreme Court nominees, suggesting Roe v. Overturning that 1973 ruling would not make abortion illegal, but it would allow individual states to ban the procedure.

With the rise of PC gaming, a proliferation of indie game developers and new cooperation among AAA developers, Sony's exclusivity might get them left in the dust.

Todd Howard of Bethesda has said that when Fallout 5 comes around, it will be a return to the former singleplayer format of the mainline Fallout games.

Currently, cross-play between PS4 and other consoles, most notably Switch and Xbox One, isn't possible. I wrote in favor of Forza Horizon 3's design in the past, as it's as close to "perfect" as I'd expect from a cross-play title, which is to say, knowing I'm even playing a cross-play title is essentially invisible to the eye.

Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In Fallout 76 servers will be filled with dozens of players and the map is very big so you wouldn't meet a player at all time. To-date, the PS4 has turned the tables on the Xbox One, outselling it by a greater-than 2:1 margin.

Fallout 76 won't feature cross-play because of Sony, Todd Howard confirmed.
