Authorities in Texas say a local woman shot a man in his head after he stole her vehicle at a gas station in Dallas this week with her two young children in the backseat.

The woman had gone into a gas station to pay late Wednesday night when the man jumped behind the wheel, according to reports by the NBC affiliate in Dallas.

Police say the man then crashed the auto into a lamp pole.

The suspect, who was wounded and is in a Dallas-area hospital, was shot in the face by Michelle Booker-Hicks, KXAS-TV reported.

'I wasn't necessarily anxious about my vehicle, ' she said.

"I hope that woke him up", Booker-Hicks said.

Wright was taken into custody and sent to the hospital. "I didn't. I just wanted to give him a warning shot that was it", she told KTVT.

DeMarquis Black, a Dallas Police Department spokesperson, told Newsweek that Wright was still hospitalized at the end of the day on Thursday. "My main objective is to get my kids safe", she said. Inside was her children, age 2 and 4.

"Just to see him slumped over like I was just like, Lord, my kids [are] in the vehicle". According to Fox 4, he's had previous charges of assault, arson, theft, making a terroristic threat, resisting arrest and drug-related charges.
